CHITWAN, April 22: Members of the Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee on Wednesday morning set ablaze a passenger bus and a truck for defying the general strike called by the committee.[break]

The protestors burned a passenger bus (Na3Kha 6252), which was bound for Pokhara from Birgunj, and a truck (Na2Kha 5437) at Khagadikhola in Padampur, Chitwan.

The passenger bus was totally incinerated, according to an eyewitness.

Normal activities in Chitwan district, a stronghold of the Tharu community, have been affected due to the general strike called by the agitating group. The agitating community called an indefinite general strike starting Wednesday, allegedly in retaliation to the government apathy in implementing the six-point agreement reached between the government and the Tharu community last month.
