The family members of the victim, who suspect Naresh´s involvement in the abduction, said that he had taken a loan of Rs 150,000 from Hari Narayan.
The worried family members started a search for the missing teacher after he didn´t return that night but could find no lead about him.
“We were delighted when we received a call from his cell phone at 10 Thursday night. But it was a ransom call,” Bhagawati said. “Naresh took my brother to Siraha and got him abducted. We also suspect the involvement of a dairy trader as he has been missing since the day of abduction,” he added.
The family has lodged a complaint with Siraha Police to secure Hari Narayan´s release. “They have been demanding two million in ransom and on Saturday gave a two-day ultimatum to pay the ransom amount. They have refused to lower the ransom amount and we are petrified after they gave us an ultimatum. We cannot afford to pay such a huge amount,” the elder brother complained.
The family said Area Police Office, Mirchaiya has also been notified about the abduction but the inspector at the office, which also oversees Karjanha, Khadga Narayan Sah expressed ignorance about the incident.
Chief of Saptari Police Ganesh Bahadur Thapa said a special police team has been mobilized to locate the victim. “We have also sought help from Siraha Police to secure his release,” Thapa said.
Hari Narayan is the eighth person to be abducted from Siraha in the past eight weeks. “The fact that the administration has been caught napping despite a slew of kidnappings in the past few months shows utter negligence of police,” Shiva Narayan Singh, a human rights activist, said.
