Tatopani tense over missing worker

SINDHUPALCHOWK, March 28: Tatopani checkpoint remain tense on Saturday following sporadic clashes between locals and armed police force over the whereabouts of a worker.

Police had arrested 21-year-old Kumar Tamang in accuse of LPG cylinder smuggling to China. He has been missing since last four days.Relatives and locals clashed with police demanding Tamang's whereabouts. One police constable was injured in the incident.

A large number of police have been mobilized after the locals threatened to padlock Tatopani Revenue Office.

"We are concerned about Tamang's whereabouts as police have not been able to make him public yet," a local businessman in a telephone conversation said, "We doubt his safety."

However, police said that Tamang fled away the scene after being arrested. "He escaped from our clutches after being arrested. Even we are searching him," SP Bidur Gurung, chief of armed police border security said.
