KATHMANDU, July 23: Sixty-two traffic personnel and 8 regular listeners of the metro traffic FM 95.6 run by Nepal Police on Tuesday donated blood on the occasion of the first anniversary of the station. Four excellent program presenters were also felicitated during the program.

Metropolitan Police Traffic Division (MPTD) had established the FM a year ago with an aim to keep the listeners informed about the traffic rules, information and updates about the road and traffic conditions. The FM gained much popularity, mainly among drivers and conductors in the capital. [break]

Sub inspector Bishnu Thapa, police constable Rama Lama, police constables Man Kumari Waiba and Bishnu Kumar Sharki were recognized for their best performances. Advocate Balabhadra Khanal was also honored during the program.

According to DSP Pawan Singh Giri, founder and a former station manager, the one year turned out to be very encouraging and the station is going to expand outside the Valley soon. He also informed that the FM is trying to become commercial as it is really getting good feedback.

“Till now, we have not played any advertisements. But the time has come to go commercial. This will benefit both the staffs and the station and we will also be able to raise our quality,” he said. “Our programs are popular. But we got to reach to maximum listeners. We want everyone to internalize traffic rules and many other things related to road safety.”

Speaking at the program, chief of MPTD and that of the FM management DSP Keshab Prasad Adhikari said that the management is trying to make the FM even more resourceful and accessible throughout Nepal. “Our aim is to expand it throughout the country,” he said.

Around 40 traffic staffs, many from media background are running the FM.
