Lions Club to fete Bista
KATHMANDU, Mar 10: Lions Club of Kathmandu Horizon on Wednesday decided to felicitate record holder taekwondo player Deepak Bista on March 20 amid a grand ceremony.
The club informed the press that they will felicitate the four consecutive gold medal winner of the South Asian Games in association with tourism entrepreneurs.
"It will not be a mere felicitation, we´ll set an example so that other athletes can get motivation from Bista´s success," claimed Ram Sharan Thapaliya, the coordinator of the felicitation program.
Thapaliya said the club will award Bista with at least Rs 500,000 cash collected from tourism entrepreneurs of Thamel, Pokhara and Chitwan. He also informed that flex-boards with Bista´s pictures have been placed in these tourism areas to honor him.
Meanwhile, Oracle Academy Kathmandu awarded cash prizes to Bista and Ayasha Shakya, the other taekwondo gold medalist in the 11th SAG. Deepak was awarded Rs 5,000 while Ayasha got Rs 3,000.
Wins for Mahendra Ratna, NCC in volleyball
KATHMANDU, Mar 10: Mahendra Ratna Campus, Tahachal, and Nepal Commerce Campus, Minbhawan, enjoyed double victories on Wednesday in the Inter Campus National Volleyball Tournament organized by the Revolutionary Free Students´ Union Council.
Mahendra Ratna defeated Surkhet Shiksha Campus 25-16, 25-8 while they edged past Nepal Engineering Campus 25-15, 25-15 at the TU Court, Kirtipur. Likewise, NCC defeated Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus 25-16, 25-20 in their first match of the day while they thrashed Western Engineering Campus, Pokhara, 25-8, 25-15 in the second match.
In the other matches of the day, Purwanchal University beat Janajyoti Campus, Sarlahi, and Shankar Dev Campus defeated Nepal Engineering Campus. Likewise, Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara, thrashed Gorkha Shiksha Campus.
Full-contact karate on Friday, Saturday
KATHMANDU, Mar 10: Nepal Kyokushin Karate-Do Association has completed all preparations for the 11th National Men´s Weight Category and 10th National Women´s Open Full-contact Karate Championship set to be held on Friday and Saturday at the Dasharath Stadium.
Altogether, 120 players including 45 women from across the nation will compete in the championship. The men´s section will feature U-55 kg, U-65 kg and above-65 kg categories while open category is included in women´s section.
The top four players in men´s section will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 8,000, Rs 4,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000, respectively. The winners in women´s section will be presented with a cash prize of Rs 12,000, Rs 6,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 1,500, respectively.
