Tandukar played a draw to Ratan Byanjankar in the last round played today. Tandukar, the winner of Ninth National Tournament held at Parbat in 1992, has returned to chess a year earlier after breaking his retirement announced in 2003.
Byanjankar finished second with 5.5 points securing equal points as that of Byanjankar, while FIDE Master Manish Hamal, Rajan Puri, Sajin Maharjan, and Umesh Saiju secured third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively on the basis of progressive points.
Bikash Kuluju, Radha Krishna Maharjan, Baburaja Maharjan and Shyam Sundar Shrestha finished seventh to tenth respectively with five points each.
Under unrated category, Mayekraj Shakya of Lalitpur scored 4.5 points and Kundan Mishra four to bag first and second positions respectively.
Badminton team off to Dhaka
A five-member Nepali badminton team left for Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Monday to participate in a training camp for South Asian players which will kick off on Wednesday. The members of the team include four players, namely Poonam Gurung, Manila Shrestha, Bilal Warsi and Irfan Ansari, and coach Meghraj Kathayat.
The two week-long training scheduled for December 1 to 14 is being organized by the Asian Badminton Federation. National Sports Council´s acting Member Secretary Geeta Shrestha bade farewell to the team.
Unique B in semis
Unique B of the hosts on Monday made it to the semifinals of senior boys´ 3-on-3 basketball in the Sixth Unique Valley-wide Inter-school Basketball Tournament underway at the hosts´ court at Siphal. Unique B edged past Neric 21-19 riding on 11 points of Rabi Chalise.
In junior boys´ section, Wilson Academy secured quarterfinal berth from group D defeating Midland 30-18. Sunil Khatri topscored with 13 points for the winning side. The hosts were also lucky to earn a quarterfinal spot after Midland lost both their matches in the group that comprised three teams.
In other matches, Panchayan outclassed Mount Glory 23-10, AIA saw off Reliance 26-17, Young Hearts beat Celebration 21-18 and Babylon defeated NOBS 19-12.
