SPORTS BRIEFS: Shiva Int'l clinch title

KATHMANDU, April 22: Shiva International Boarding School, Saptari clinched the title of the Inter School U-16 T20 National Cricket Tournament on Thursday.



Shiva Int´l thrashed New Horizon Boarding School, Rupandehi by 37 runs in the final match played at the Siddhartha Stadium, Bhairahawa. [break]



Batting first, Shiva Int´l put up 97 runs in 17.5 overs losing all wickets. Chhatra Narayan Roy struck 32 runs for Shiva Int´l while Gunananda Ray added 17 runs. Nabin Shrestha and Gokarna Acharya claimed three wickets each to bowl Shiva Int´l out for a modest total.



However, New Horizon performed a flop batting and were all out for 60 runs in 17.1 overs. Himal Aryal (25 runs) and Devendra Somare (14 runs) were the highest contributors while other batsmen put up a dismal show. Man-of-the-match Gunananda Ray and Bijay Das took three wickets each to seal the victory for Shiva Int´l.



The winning school bagged Rs 30,000 cash prize while runners-up New Horizon received Rs 20,000.





Kumari in quarterfinals



KATHMANDU, April 22: Kumari Bank advanced into the quarterfinals of the Sixth Inter-bank Men´s Volleyball Tournament defeating Rastriya Banijya Bank 25-19, 25-23 on Thursday.



Likewise, Everest Bank ousted NCC 25-22, 25-7 while the hosts Nepal Rastra Bank Blues edged out Nepal Merchant Bank 25-15, 25-12 to enter the last eight.
