Sports Briefs: Elephant polo kicks off

BARDIYA, Nov 30: The 28th edition of International Elephant Polo Championship kicked off Monday at the main office of Bardiya National Park. Tepa, National, Angers Energy, Chivas Regal won their respective matches while Tiger Tops and Tiger Spice Girls, and Pukkachukka and Karnali Dolphin played draw.[break]

Tepa, Thailand, defeated Force Rock Space, Emirates 8-7. Likewise, the hosts team National Park thrashed New York Blue Beach, US, 12-4. Angers Energy, Scotland, crushed Frog Hunter, Australia, 8-2. In another match, Chivas Regal, Scotland, had a narrow 5-4 victory over Centuriers, Australia.

The match between Pukkachukka, England, and Karnali Dolphin ended in 8-8 tie. The last match between Tiger Tops, Iceland, and Tiger Spice Girls, Singapore ended in 6-6 draw.

Kotdevi, Greenwich in QF

Kotdevi and Greenwich secured berth for the quarterfinals on Monday winning their respective matches under Fourth FECA Cup Inter-school Tournament.

Kotdevi edged past Career 2-0 in the first match of the day. Kiran Pandey scored one for the winning team and the second goal came as gift from Career as they scored in their own post. Bikram Bishankhe of Career was declared man-of-the-match.

Likewise, Greenwich also registered a 2-0 win over Mananka. Prakash Thapa and Sagar Ale netted one each. Santosh Chaudhary of Mananka got the man-of-the-match award.

Newton, New Diamond win titles

Newton and New Diamond won the boys´ and girls´ title of the Fifth SEB Inter-school Valley-wide Volleyball Tournament on Monday being held at hosts court.

Newton defeated the hosts SEB ´A´ in straight sets 25-19, 25-14 and 25-15 to lift the boys´ trophy in the final match. Sailesh Paneru of the host got the man-of-the-match award.

In girls´ title clash, New Diamond had a hard fought victory over Annal Jyoti 21-25, 25-18, 25-14, 23-25 and 15-8. Chadani Mendo Tamang of Annal Jyoti was adjudged the woman-of-the-match.

Ramila Tandukar of New Diamond and Sherlal Paudel of SEB won the best player of the tournament in girls´ and boys´ category. Nightingale won the third spot in boys´ and Angel Heart in girls´ section.

Winning start for hosts

The hosts Unique and Galaxy started with a winning note under junior boys´ category in the Fifth Unique Cup Valley-wide Inter-school Basketball Tournament that kicked off Monday at the hosts court.

Unique recorded a comfortable win over Awareness Int´l Academy (AIA) 38-15. Galaxy had a narrow 10-9 victory over Wilson.

Likewise, Gauri Shankhar thrashed Jagat Mandir 23-6, Daffodil saw off Young Heart 13-6 and Relliance edged past Grammar 20-12. In senior girls´ category, Galaxy beat Daffodil 15-6.
