SPORTS BRIEFS: Deepjyoti claims third position

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: Deepjyoti Bidyashram, Banke claimed third position in the girls’ section of the ongoing Coca-Cola Cup Inter School National Football Tournament on Wednesday. Deepjyoti thrashed Saraswati Secondary School, Kanchanpur 3-0 at the ANFA Complex, Satdobato to finish third in the tournament.



Nirmala Rajopadhyaya scored in the third and 32nd minutes for the winning side and Bhadra Kala BK added another in the 55th minute. [break]



JP High School will take on Gautam Buddha Secondary School, Rupandehi in the girls’ final on Thursday at the Dasharath Stadium, while Siddhartha Vanasthali School will lock horns with Army School, Bhaktapur in the boys’ final.



Sanepa, Khumaltar win
KATHMANDU: Sanepa Club and Khumaltar Youth Club won their respective matches on the opening day of the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull C Division League on Wednesday. Sanepa defeated Nawajyoti Yuva Pariwar Club 2-1 at the ANFA Technical Center, Chyasal. Utshav Lama provided lead to Sanepa in the 18th minute but Rajan leveled the score in the 45th minute. John Subba scored the decider in the 69th minute for Sanepa and sealed the victory. Likewise, Khumaltar beat Khalibari Football Club 1-0. Rajkaji Shrestha scored the lone goal for Khumaltar in the 85th minute of the match. All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Treasurer Birat Jung Shahi inaugurated the tournament handing over match ball to former FIFA Assistant Referee Binod KC.



LA/JTI tennis begins on Friday
KATHMANDU: Little Angels School (LA) will organize the Fifth LA/JTI Inter School Tennis Tournament from Friday. According to School’s tennis coach Rameshwar Thapa, altogether 299 players, including 106 girls, from 30 different schools are participating in the tournament. There are seven age groups each in boys and girls section. The matches will be held at the LA School premise at Hattiban and the Satdobato Tennis Court. Each day a player will be awarded Rs 5000 and gift hampers as ‘Nike Lucky Player of the Day’.



Bhutan to send players for Mt Everest Taekwondo
KATHMANDU: Bhutan confirmed to send a 16-member team to Nepal for the upcoming First Mount Everest Taekwondo Tournament. The tournament, organized by Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA) and International Nepalese Taekwondo Association (INTA), is scheduled for September 22, 23 and 24. According to the organizing committee, Bhutanese team includes 12 players, two coaches, a judge and a team manager. Altogether 250 players from 20 different nations namely America, England, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong are expected to participate in the tournament.
