APF pulled an emphatic victory of nine wickets in the opening match of Madan Bhandari Memorial T-20 Cricket Tournament against Boyz United Cricket Club at the TU Cricket Ground on Saturday. [break]
APF, studded with national cricket stars, bowled out Boyz United for 71 runs in 18.2 overs and met the target in eight overs. Shakti Gauchan took three wickets and Mehboob Alam claimed two wickets for APF. Aakash Priyar (29 runs) and Ajay Rajbanshi (11 runs) were the only two Boyz United batsmen to score in double digits. In reply, Paresh Lohani (21 runs), Subash Khakurel (38 runs) sailed APF to the victory.
Meanwhile, Rudramati Club defeated Kantipur City College (KCC) by three wickets in the second match of the day. KCC put up 116/6 in the allotted 20 overs as Shibu Budhathoki scored 51 runs for them. In reply, Rudramati met the target in 14 overs losing seven wickets. Middle order batsman Prem Tamang scored unbeaten 53 runs off 30 balls to guide Rudramati toward victory.
Kayastha takes lead
Madan Krishna Kayastha from Bhaktapur took lead in the Man Bahadur Magar Memorial Rating Chess Tournament on Saturday after the completion of the fifth round. Kayastha has 4.5 points as he defeated former Nepal champion Nabin Tandukar in the fourth round and played a draw against Lab Kumar Shrestha in the fifth round. Tandukar, Shrestha, Bikas Kuluju, Bhawani Limbu and Hari Chandra Chaulagain have equal four points and are jointly in the second position in the tournament organized by The Himalayan Chess Club.
NASA to meet Xavier in final
NASA International set a final clash against Xavier International in the girls´ section of the Second BST Inter-college Basketball Tournament. NASA thrashed Reliance International Academy 33-12 in the semifinal on Saturday at the court of hosts BST College. Likewise, Xavier outclassed Trinity 24-11 in the second semifinal. In the boys´ category, National Campus fixed the final date with VS Niketan. National defeated Morgan 63-44 and VS Niketan edged past Bagmati 57-40 in the semifinal on Saturday.
Lissanevitch siblings on high
Ivannoe Lissanevitch won the titles of U-12 and U-14 boys´ singles categories in the Ninth Jaykar Memorial National Junior Tennis Tournament on Saturday. Lissanevitch defeated Avaya Gauchan 9-4 in U-12 final played at the Satdobato Tennis Court and bagged Rs 10,000. He then thrashed Bramhanda Singh Moktan 6-0, 6-3 in the final of U-14 to win Rs 15,000. His sister Aslesha Lissanevitch claimed the title of U-16 girls´ singles. Top ranking women player of the country Lissanevitch edged past Anushka Joshi 6-1, 6-2 and received Rs 20,000. Meanwhile, Bibhuti Karki beat Mayanka Rana 9-7 in the final of U-12 girls´ singles. Winner Karki was awarded with the cash prize of Rs 10,000. Pranjal Kayastha clinched the title of U-16 boys´ singles defeating Milan Rokaya 6-3, 6-2. Nepal Boxing Association President Rabiraj Thapa gave away the prizes to the winners. The organizers Man Jaykar Tennis Academy felicitated Jeevan Ram Shrestha, general-secretary of Nepal Olympic Committee headed by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, and photojournalist Rajendra Chitrakar at the closing ceremony.
Paija leads archery
Kumar Paija won the award for the best archer during the First Open Tara Running Shield Archery Tournament on Saturday. Paija is leading the tournament with five points on the second day. Kamal Gurung is trailing at the second position with four points. Ramesh Pun and Govinda Chhantyal are at third position with three points. Pram Chhantyal and Jhak Sharma have two points each. The tournament is being organized on the occasion of Tamu Lhosar at namo Buddha Gurung Service Centre, Sukedhara.
