When compared to the overall increase in the total budget, the allocation to MoWCSW has decreased by around 0.4 percent. The MoWCSW had received Rs. 1.79 billion for the fiscal year 2014/15. Spokesperson at the MoWCSW, Ram Prasad Bhattarai, said, "This year, government's major priority is reconstruction. That's why all the ministries have received smaller budget this year."
Officials at the MoWCSW said that the ministry is not strategically capable to spend more budgets in sectors it works. "The ministry cannot handle hefty budget in lack of effective strategic plans," said Ram Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson at the MoWCSW. "We have been working in the sectors of gender equality and child welfare for a long time, but we don't have effective strategy till date."
According to the officials, they are satisfied with the share of budget it gets every year. The ministry usually spends almost 98 percent of the budget allocated to it.
The budget has also covered the areas of street children and senior citizen
The government has announced to increase the social security allowance of senior citizens from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000.
