KATHMANDU, Mar 23: Smelling rat over a recent verdict of the Supreme Court (SC) to revoke amnesty on certain war era cases that fall under the transitional justice mechanism, six Maoist parties have decided to fight back the decision jointly.

A meeting of the six Maoist parties, held at Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist Buddhanagar based party office on Sunday, has concluded that the verdict aims to imprison some Maoist leaders in the name of war-era incidents. The top brass of six Maoist parties have said that the recent activity by the state of detaining their cadres over war-era cases and court verdicts of activating war-era cases are against Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) and provisions of the interim constitution.

“We are alarmed by the decision of the SC as it aims to make transitional justice mechanism dysfunctional and corner the Maoist forces,” said UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha. The SC had ordered to rescind amnesty on certain war era cases from the Acts on Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission to Inquire on Enforced Disappearance commission.

Issuing a joint statement after the meeting, chiefs of the six Maoist parties have announced a protest program against the activities of the state. Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led UCPN (Maoist), Baidya led CPN-Maoist, Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist, Matrika Yadav-led CPN (Maoist), Mani Thapa-led Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) and Pari Thapa led CPN-Unified (Ekikrit)  have announced interaction on March 28 and national-wide protest on April 6.

General Secretary of RCP, Mani Thapa, said that the meeting also decided to jointly create pressure on the government to implement the CPA and interim constitution. Although Maoist parties also discussed about reviving Working Alliance Committee, formed about a year ago, they failed to reach a conclusion on it, said CPN-Maoist Vice-chairman CP Gajurel.

Earlier, a meeting between talk teams of UCPN (Maoist) and CPN-Maoist, formed with a view of party unification prepared six-foundation for principled environment of party reunification.

Reviewing past mistakes, party's working strategy, transforming party organization in line with democratic centralism are among the guidelines set by the two parties.

A day before leaving for a five-day China, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Dahal also held separate meeting with CPN-Maoist Chief Baidya and Coordinator of the United Democratic Madheshi Front (UDMF) Bijay Gachchhedar on Sunday.
