Six cops injured in scuffle

SALYAN, May 19: At least six police, including Inspector Krishna Chhetri were injured in a scuffle between locals and police on Tuesday night on the murder case of a woman in Rim of Salyan on Tuesday morning.



The scuffle took a nasty turn when locals started pelting stones at police, demanding capital punishment to Purna Bahadur Yari of Kupindedaha VDC of Salyan who was arrested for allegedly involved in the murder case. [break]



Police charged baton to save Yari when locals took him under control from the police and ruthlessly thrashed him, according to District Police Office.



Police had lobbed dozens of tear gas and opened blank fire to take the situation under control.



Seriously injured Yari is taken to hospital in Dang for treatment. Yari had killed Kamala Sahu, 22, of Rim VDC on Tuesday morning by using sharp sickle while she was cutting grass in the field.



The irate locals set ablaze two houses following the murder incident, said locals.
