Sherma guaranteed at least silver medal

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Biwana Sherma of Nepal Police has guaranteed herself at least a silver medal in the women´s 46 kg weight category in the Third Nationwide Boxing Tournament organized by Lalitpur District Boxing Association.



Sherma defeated Nitu BK from Butwal 19-13 on Thursday to reach the final. Her opponent in the final is yet to be decided.[break]



Sabitri Tamang of Palung, Maya Chaudhary of Armed Police Force (APF) and Sunita Maharjan of Bosigaun reached the semifinals of women´s 48 kg. Tamang thrashed Mina Ghale of Bosigaun 21-6, Chaudhary registered a 6-4 victory over club-mate Mugamaya Pakhrin and Maharjan beat club-mate Rupa Lama 3-1 to secure berths in the last four.



Nepal Police Club´s boxer Suman Lama overcame Rajesh Karki from Sunsari to reach the semifinals of men´s 60 kg. Referee stopped the contest (RSC) and announced Lama as the winner.







Surendra Karki of Tikathali won the bout against Supati Kumal of Nepal Army by 22-15, while Deependra Shrestha of Makawanpur pulled off a 31-27 victory over Krishna Chandra Shrestha of APF. Prem Roka Magar from Salyan defeated Shailendra Roka Magar from Rukum in the next bout of the weight category.



Gopal Sunuwar of Nepal Army, Prabin Makaju of Bhaktapur, Bhupendra Thapa of Nepal Police and Bikash Lama of APF entered the semifinals of men´s 64 kg.



Sunuwar and Makaju defeated Ramit Neupane of Bhadrakali and Nitesh Pradhan of Tarkeshwar respectively in the quarterfinals based on RSC. Meanwhile, Thapa defeated Sunil Thapa of Nepal Youth Boxing Group 6-1 and Lama edged past Umesh Rijal of Tikathali 8-5.







Kumar Khan Thakuri from Nawalparasi defeated Deepak Shrestha of Nepal Army 21-13 and Sujan Thapa of Tarkeshwar beat Suraj Magar of Kathmandu 19-15 to book semifinal spots in men´s 69 kg.



Likewise, APF´s Bhupendra Bista thrashed Hemant Lama of Makawanpur 11-4 while Bista´s club-mate Sushil Ghimire reached the semifinals after his opponent Dinesh Basukala retired hurt.



Devendra Maharjan of APF and Somit Khatri of Kathmandu entered the last four in the men´s 75 kg weight category. Gyan Bahadur Rumba of Patan Boxing Club retired hurt during the bout against Maharjan while Khatri thrashed Roman Shrestha of Makawanpur 43-21.
