“A separate woman cell is being set up at the OPMCM on Wednesday to take up cases related to violence against women and to dispense instant justice to the victim. The cell will deal with cases of all kinds of exploitation against women” OPMCM Secretary Dr Trilochan Uprety told myrepublica.com.
Officials said that the cell would be inaugurated on Wednesday amidst a formal program at the PM´s office. The cell will be run by five government women employees.
OPMCM officials claimed that the function of the cell would be different from those of the other government and non-government organizations working for women´s uplift and empowerment. “For instance, necessary action will be taken on the spot once the cell gets complaints of violence against women,” a highly placed source said.
The cell will brief the prime minister about its daily activities. According to the plan, the cell will be open for 24 hours to receive complaints and to take necessary action.
“The objective of the program is to minimize the instances of injustice, inequality, exploitation and all kinds of discrimination against women,” said the official.
