KATHMANDU, April 21: The Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday issued a show cause notice against removal of the editor-in-chief of the state-run Gorkhapatra daily.

A single bench of Justice Kalyan Shrestha ordered the defendants to clarify as to why the editor-in-chief was removed from the post. Justice Shrestha has also summoned the defendants to discuss if the apex court should issue an interim order as demanded by the writ petitioner.

Former editor-in-chief of Gorkhapatra daily Sitaram Agrahari moved the court on Wednesday challenging the decision of Gorthapatra Corporation to remove him from the post. The writ petitioner has argued that his removal is illegal.[break]

Agrahari has urged SC to scrap the decision of Gorthapatra Corporation and reinstate him to the post.

Officiating General Manager of Gorthapatra Corporation Kapil Ghimire on Tuesday removed Agrahari from the post and appointed junior executive editor of The Rising Nepal Pushkar Mathema, a 10th level staffer, as the officiating editor-in-chief of Gorkhapatra daily.

Agrahari, an 11th level staffer, is deputed to Madhuparka magazine, a sister publication.

As per the bylaw related to Gorthapatra Corporation, one who holds 11th -level position cannot be deputed to a lower post.
