Samaj demands immediate release of Panta and Bhattarai

KATHMANDU June 21: Sudur Paschim Patrakar Samaj on Friday expressed serious concern over the arrest of journalist Sushil Panta, the editor of Gorkha FM and nepaliheadlines.com. Panta was arrested on Thursday in connection with the news content on the online news portal. The police have also detained Santosh Bhattarai and Puskar Kandel, both staff at the news portal [break]



Issuing press statement, General Secretary of Samaj, Roshan Khadka said that it was unlawful to arrest the journalists over the published content as there are other related bodies to watch the issues. Both organizations demanded the immediate release of the arrested journalists.

Representatives of Samaj also visited the Chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office and Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Friday and expressed their concerns.
