KATHMANDU, April 17: A writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday against removal of the editor-in-chief of the state-run Gorkhapatra daily.

Former Editor-in-chief of Gorkhapatra daily Sitaram Agrahari moved the court challenging the decision of Gorthapatra Corporation to remove him from the post. The writ petitioner has argued that his removal is illegal, ill-intentioned and insulting.[break]

Agrahari has urged the SC to scrap the decision of Gorthapatra Corporation and reinstate him to the post of editor-in-chief.

Officiating General Manager of Gorthapatra Corporation Kapil Ghimire on Tuesday removed Agrahari from his post and appointed junior executive editor of The Rising Nepal Pushkar Mathema, a 10th level staffer, as officiating editor-in-chief Gorkhapatra daily.

Agrahari, an 11th level staffer, is deputed to Madhuparka magazine, a sister publication of Gorthapatra Corporation.

As per the bylaw related to Gorthapatra Corporation, one who holds 11th level cannot be deputed to a post eligible for 10th level.
