RPP passes condolence proposal on Thapa's demise

KATHMANDU, April 16: Today's emergency meeting of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has expressed sorrow on the demise of its senior leader and former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa and passed a condolence proposal.

The meeting held at party Chairperson Pashupati Shumser JB Rana's residence at Maharajgunj has concluded that the sudden demise of former PM and Constituent Assembly (CA) member Thapa while undergoing treatment in New Delhi has caused irreparable loss to the party.


The country has lost a statesman voicing for the timely promulgation of a new constitution through consensus to give an end to the deepening transition, stated the proposal. "It is a big loss to the party and the entire country".

The meeting also extended heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and wished for the eternal peace of the departed soul.




The meeting decided not to organize any formal programs and activities for 13 days to mourn Thapa’s demise and to fly the party flag at half mast for seven days, keep condolence book in all the 75 districts and to organize condolence and tribute-paying programs at all the district offices of the party on the 13th day of demise.

The meeting also decided to urge the party leaders and cadres who have been grief-stricken at the demise of founder president of the party to exercise fortitude.

The dead body of Thapa is to be brought to Kathmandu this afternoon through special aircraft of the Indian government.

RPP Assistant Spokesperson Kiran Giri informed that Thapa's dead body will be kept at his residence, Maligaun, till Friday morning. His dead body will be kept at party office, Chawahil, at 10 am tomorrow morning and in Dasharath Stadium for final tribute from 12.00 on Friday.

The final rites of late Thapa will be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand-led RPP has also expressed condolence on the passing away of Thapa.

An emergency meeting has been called at party central office Anamnagar at 1.00 pm today regarding Thapa's demise, stated a release issued by Party Publicity Committee Coordinator Meena Subedi.

Likewise, the Informal Sector Services Sector (INSEC), in a statement, stated that it has been saddened by the untimely demise of former Prime Minister Thapa.

Thapa, who remained active in politics in the last six decades, had served as the Prime Minister for five times.

He was also the senior member of the Constituent Assembly and was active in seeking an outlet to the latest political deadlock in the country in recent days.RSS
