KATHMANDU, Oct 9: Most of the star hotels and resorts have announced that they are sold out for most of the days in the month of October and November. The hoteliers said they had already closed bookings for up to 15 days in October following 100 percent confirmed bookings.

Almost all the hotels have increased the room tariff by up to 12 percent starting from October. However, the increased room tariff shows no impact on the booking trend as the average occupancy compared to last year is better. [break]

Hoteliers said that although it was a normal for hotels to be occupied during the months of October and November- considered as it was the peak season for tourism business, they are overwhelmed as the revenue side was also looking stronger than last year.

Radisson Hotel, Kathmandu is sold out for eight days in the month of October with occupancy rate at 85-90 percent in the remaining days. General Manager of the hotel Pralhad Raj Kunwar said, “We are really pleased with the booking of this month as the room rates are also really good.”

He said that most of the rooms were occupied by European segment followed by Australian and Chinese. The hotel, which has recently announced the opening of additional 105 rooms, has its occupancy for the month of November at 75 percent with some of the rooms already sold out.

The booking status of the hotels suggests that there is almost no chance for any group traveler to get the rooms in the last minute. “As most of the rooms are already sold out, we are making reservation of FITs (Free Independent Travelers) only for now,” Resident Manger of Hotel Yak and Yeti Bharat Joshi said.

He said that the reason to focus on direct online booking and FITs was availability of few rooms and also to get best room rates in the peak season.

According to reservation status of Hotel Yak and Yeti, European segment is leading followed by Australian and China. “The booking from all these segment has gone up along with Middle-East market and the movement of Indian tourist is comparatively low,” added Joshi.

The hotel is sold out for 14 days in the month of October and 10 days in November.

Likewise, the other five star hotel of the capital Hotel Everest is sold out for 12 days for current month. Amir K. Pradhananga, sales and marketing director of the Hotel Everest said, “The October is looking really good through out the month but the occupancy in mid-October is slightly low compared to the beginning and the end of the month.”

Rojin Shakya, Business Development Manager of Gokarna Forest Resort said that the resort had received 100 percent booking for 15 days in October. “We are sold out for 15 days and the average occupancy is at 90 percent,” said he.

The 90-room resort is also sold out for most of the days in the following month. “Most of our guests are golfers and as per the nationality the number of Australian, Chinese and Americans are higher compared to other segment,” he added.
