Rights activists picket court

JANAKPUR, May 11: Accusing a district court judge of misconduct, women rights activists here on Tuesday staged protests on the court premises throughout the day. They also labeled Judge Prakash Kafle as "incompetent".



The rights activists staged protests after District Court released Kabbya Narayan Shah, who was accused of murdering his daughter in-law Rupa Karna, on a general date on Monday. They claimed that the judge released the accused under pressure.[break]



Chanting slogans, women rights activist demanded that the "incompetent" judge be sacked so as to render the judiciary´s image clean and provide justice to the innocent.



Judge Kafle, who wore helmet, managed to enter the court avoiding protestor´s eyes. On Monday, However, the judge was forced to remain in the court till late evening.

In the evening at 6 pm, a troop of police personnel led by DSP Rupak Kumar Neupane rescued trapped judges and escorted them to their residences.



The agitating women warned that they would continue their protest until the judge is sacked.



Bharati Jha of human rights protection group, Ram Bharat Shah of dowry elimination association, Sayongita Shah of women rights concern group, Namrata Giri of OREK, Anita Yadav of CPN-UML and took part in the protests.



The police had arrested Shah a month ago.
