They said senior leaders of major political parties have shown disrespect to the parliament while using other platforms to make important announcements.
"Senior leaders who seldom appear in the parliament have instead preferred to use five-star hotels and other places to discuss important issues. This has saddened us," said lawmaker Ramnath Dhakal of CPN-UML in the parliament meeting on Thursday.
He said if UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had used the parliament to make his apology in public on his previous remarks instead of doing the same in a five-star hotel, it would have added beauty to the House.
"Political party leaders had never disparaged the image of the parliament to this extent in the past," he said.
He criticized top leaders also for not attending the CA meetings to discuss contentious issues to be included in the new constitution. Saying that the CA is the achievement of 60 years of continued struggle of political parties, he urged top leaders not to undermine its importance.
Maoist leader Nanda Kumar Prasai demanded immediate resignation of the government arguing that the incumbent government had no moral ground to stay in office any longer. Pushpa Bhusal of Nepali Congress and Janak Kumari Chalise of CPN-ML, among others, spoke in the meeting.
