Kali Devi School of Pangtang, which is also called Karnali of the district, saw all 19 students pass the exams. Of them, 12 passed in first division. The school that is one day trek from district headquarters Chautara provides education to students of three VDCs including Golche and Gumba located at the base of Mt Jugal. These villages, which grow only potato and wheat, do not have access to electricity, transportation and communication facilities.
Thulo Dhading is also a remote VDC that shares border with Dolakha. Dharmodaya Secondary School from the village had 22 of the 36 students pass in first division and the rest in second while Janakalyan from the village saw all 12 students pass in first division. Similarly, Kodari Secondary School situated in the northern part of Tatopani VDC near the Tibetan border had six students pass in first division and 16 in second. Likewise, Bhim Bidyashram, that sent students for SLC exams for the first time, had 13 students securing first division and one third division.
These community schools of remote villages run on personal donations, VDC budget and help from community forests. These schools hardly have two secondary level teachers on government quota and pay for the staff through their own resources. "We have shown that we can achieve great things with the understanding of guardians, integrity of teachers and responsibility of management committee," chairman of the management committee of Kali Devi Secondary School Yagya Sapkota said.
This school has decided to award teachers of traditionally tougher subjects like English, math and science with Rs 5,000 each in recognition of their contribution to getting perfect result in SLC.
Administrative officer at the District Education Office Badri Poudel said the results of these community schools were commendable. "It is not easy to get 100 percent result. The credit of the success goes to the common public," Poudel said.
