Giri was a reserve player in the Division 3 squad while U-19 bowling star Karn has been included in the national team for the first time. Karn had taken a record 24 wickets during the ACC U-19 Elite Cup held in Malaysia three months ago. Pun was a member of the Nepali team during the ACC T20 Cup held in Kathmandu. However, the Emerging Teams Cup would mark his national team debut in the 50-over format.
Paras Khadka has been retained as captain and Gyanendra Malla as vice-captain. Sharad Vesawkar, Subash Khakurel, Prithu Baskota, Shakti Gauchan, Rahul Vishwakarma, Basanta Regmi, Pradeep Airee, Binod Bhandari, Chandra Sawad and Anil Mandal have also retained their positions in the team.
Naresh Budhayer and Mahesh Chhetri are reserve players while Binod Das, Yagyaman Kumal and Jitendra Mukhiya, who were called up for the initial phase of the closed camp, have been left out.
The national team is scheduled to play practice matches and attend training sessions in Sri Lanka from August 1 to 14 before flying to Singapore.
Nepal has been drawn along with India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in Group A of the 50-over tournament. Similarly, Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore. Test nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will field their U-23 teams in the tournament.
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has introduced the tournament with a view to promote associate nations.
