Radio Nepal marks 61st anniversary

KATHMANDU, April 3: Country´s oldest electronic media, Radio Nepal, marked its 61st anniversary amid a function Sunday.



On the occasion, chairman of Radio Broadcasting Services Development Committee and Secretary at Ministry of Information and Communication Sushil Ghimire awarded the winners of various competitions, journalists associated to Radio Nepal and employees with different awards.[break]



During the program, winners of the Nationwide Modern Song Competition were awarded.



Singers Sujata Barma, Vishwa Nepali and Raj Sigdel were awarded for their first, second and third position, respectively in the competition.



Likewise, lyricist Pradeep Niraula and musician Ananda Rai were also honored.



Speaking at the program, Ghimire expressed commitment to develop Radio Nepal as a powerful means of communication.



Addressing the program, Executive Director of the Radio Nepal, Tapa Nath Shukla said Radio Nepal was approaching to 86 per cent of country´s population with its services.



He also underscored the need for technical assistance to take Radio Nepal´s services among the people living in the Himalayan region.



Radio Nepal was established in Chaitra 20, 2007 BS after the establishment of democracy in Nepal and now is broadcasting news in 20 different languages. It has been playing a vital role in promoting country´s musical sector as well along with disseminating the national and international news across the country.
