Organizing a press conference in the capital on Tuesday, NSJF said the Sports Award will honor Nepali athletes, coaches and sports personalities for their achievements in the Nepali year 2069 BS.[break]
According to NSJF General Secretary Mahesh Acharya, the Pulsar Sports Award 2069 will honor sports personalities in eight categories -- player of the year (male), player of the year (female), player of the year (youth), coach of the year, para-athlete of the year, popular player of the year, special award and lifetime achievement award.
"We´ll announce the para-athlete of the year, special award and lifetime achievement award on the day of the award ceremony while we´ll make public the nominations for other categories as soon as possible," said Acharya.
NSJF had awarded a motorbike each to the male and female players of the year and popular player of the year in the last edition while other winners were awarded Rs 30,000.
"We are mulling to raise the prizes for the winners. We´ll probably award four bikes in this edition and also increase the prize money. We´ll take a final decision soon," said NSJF President Ajay Phuyal.
NSJF had signed a five-year sponsorship deal last year with Hansraj Hulaschand and Company Pvt Ltd, the sole authorized distributor of Pulsar bikes for Nepal.
"As we have a long-term commitment with NSJF, we are happy to continue our sponsorship. The sponsorship amount is Rs 1.1 million for this year," said Shekhar Golchha, the executive director of Hansraj Hulaschand and Company.
"People sometimes ask me why I´m supporting sports events and my answer is it is one of the uniting forces in the country," said Golchha. "I was there to watch the ACC T20 Cup final between Nepal and Afghanistan at the TU Cricket Ground and I saw a passionate crowd, which was not divided on lines of caste, region or class. There were only Nepalis cheering for Nepal. This strength of sports inspires business houses to support sports activities," he added.
NSJF Vice-president Devendra Subedi said NSJF is committed to making Pulsar Sports Award a most popular event.
