As we celebrate the 6th anniversary of Nepal Republic Media (NRM), the prospect of a peaceful and prosperous republic still remains elusive. Republica was born to better inform and educate, and to create awareness of the new republic. We pledge to carry out our mission of pursuing the truth and contributing in the building of a new Nepal. In the past six years, we have been in the forefront of debate on social, economic and political transformation in the country. We shall never waver in our responsibility to constantly probe the workings of our government and the weal and woe of people and society. NRM will always be the voice of the Nepali people and strive to represent their aspirations.A free and independent press is an indispensable pillar of a vibrant democracy. In the aftermath of the 2006 revolution, the Nepali press has indeed enjoyed greater freedom and independence. However, our journalists and reporters are still not spared targeted attacks and threats across the country in the course of carrying out their duties. On this day, we ask our government to help foster an environment for all journalists to work and report fearlessly on issues that matter to us all.

Despite our relentless efforts, our state mechanisms continues to be slow and unresponsive to the plight of the people. Democracy is a messy affair. It takes time for the system to start working properly. However, the so-called transition period has dragged on for far too long. People are losing patience. We are seeing a steady rise of extremist elements. Prolonged transition will further embolden these forces. Therefore, we urge the political parties to come to a meeting point soon and bring out the long-awaited constitution.

May this Loktantra Diwas serve us as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices of our generation to bring peace, freedom and prosperity to the country, and the enormous amount of work that remains to be done to consolidate recent achievements.
