A meeting of the education committee held in April had decided to grant permission to the schools to run classes only for new entrants and second grader but the schools not satisfied with the decision went on running more classes.

"We had given permission as per the education regulation but the schools have flouted it," Kamal added. Those flouting the education regulation include Silicon Valley International School, Isogai International Boarding School and Purna Gyan Women´s School in Damaul; New Vision Boarding School, Pokhari Bhanjyang, Om Jana Chetana Boarding School, Satishwara, Holyland Boarding School, Devghat, Indreni Sky Boarding School and Charkune, among others.

Silicon Valley, New Vision, Om Jana Chetana and Holyland don´t have permission even for the first grade, according to DEO.

"Some of the schools have not taken permission at all, while others are operating classes above the permissible limits," said Buddhi Sagar Khanal at the school administration department of DEO, Tanahu. Silicon Valley, which is operating classes up to the eighth grade has not even deposited seucurity guarantee with the DEO. Education Regulation requires a school to deposit Rs 50,000 to operate classes up to fifth standard, Rs 150,000 for eighth graders and Rs 200,000 for the tenth graders.

Meanwhile, Tanahu president of the National Private and Boarding Schools´ Organization of Nepal (N-PABSON) Sahadev Adhikari conceded that the schools operating without permission are illegal and should be dealt with stringent action.
