The Congress, organized with the objective of exploring ways to transfer new technologies and knowledge of ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) doctors of the developed country in the developing countries, will last for three days.[break]
Some 650 doctors from 14 countries including SAARC countries, USA, UK, Thailand, Japan and Singapore are taking part in the Congress organized by the Society of Otolaryngologists of Nepal.
The Congress will discuss the ways to expand city-centric ENT specialist service to rural and disadvantaged people of Nepal.
There are 71 specialist doctors of ENT in Nepal. Almost all of them are stationed in cities.
Nepal has organized the Congress, which is held in every two years, for third time. It is informed in the Congress that the number of ENT patients has been increasing in SAARC region due to excessive smoking.
President Dr. Yadav underlined the need of collective efforts to prevent people from the diseases related to ENT as it has remained as common problem in the SAARC region.
The ENT treatment service is mostly focused on ciities, which should be expanded to the reach of rural people, the President stressed.
President Dr. Yadav further said, ´There should be collective efforts to remove smoking habits to prevent the ailments related to ear, nose and throat´.
Chairperson of Congress Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Bimal Kumar Sinha expressed hope that the Congress will be beneficial to bring the new technologies, knowledge and skills on ENT treatment service gained by developed countries in the developing ones.
