Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon inaugurated the event at a special function organized in Geneva. Speaking at the inaugural program, Ban said development of ICT can help reduce climate change with its energy efficient technology as well as by reducing the physical transaction costs of business and industries. He stressed the need of the ICT to help reduce poverty and attain the Millennium Development Goals, the release added.
The ITU Telecom World 2009 is one of the largest ICT fairs and is attended by heads of states and governments, ministers, and high level dignitaries, chief executives, and ICT business and industries from around the world.
