Minister Pokhrel attends live 'video conference' in Japan of Nepali satellite travelling on Earth's orbit

LALITPUR, June 17: Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, attended the live 'video conference' of Nepali first satellite NepaliSat-1 rotating in orbit around the Earth.


The conference is organized today in Japan by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

The Minister is accompanied by Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) vice-chancellor Dr. Sunil Babu Shrestha, according to NAST Spokesperson Suresh Kumar Dhungel.


The two left for Japan last Saturday to take updates about the NepaliSat-1, the nanosatellite that was launched into space by Japan's Kyushu Institute of Technology on April 17 from the Virginia Space’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in the United States.


The NepaliSat-1 weighing 1.3 kilos has started moving around the Earth's orbit from today, June 17. It has been in the International Space Station since one and half month.


The NAST has scheduled a live telecast of the moments the satellite being released into the Earth's orbit from its auditorium room 12:00 noon today. Three experts from JAXA have already arrived here to assist in the live telecast of the awaited moment. The program will continue until 5:00 pm today.
