Prime Minister Dahal, who is also the Chancellor of the country´s largest and oldest university, made this commitment during a meeting with a delegation of TU Teachers´ Association (TUTA).

“This is a condemnable incident. I have already directed the Home Minister to take necessary action against those involved in the incident,” TUTA president Shiva Prasad Munakarmi quoted Dahal as saying to them.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister told the delegation that similar incidents were taking place time and again due to the fluid political situation in the country and that the government was trying its best to resolve all the problems.

A group of students affiliated with the Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) had smeared soot on the faces of the VC and the Rector on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, the TUTA staged a demonstration for one hour starting 11:30 am in front of the southern gate of Singh Durbar, demanding action against those involved in the incident. Around 100 teachers participated in the protest.

Munakarmi said the soot-smearing incident had institutionalized academic anarchy and that the guilty behind such acts should be booked to discourage such trend.

Nepal Bar Association president Bishwo Kanta Mainali, human rights activist Daman Nath Dhungana and Constituent Assembly member Nilambar Acharya, among others, reached the venue to express solidarity with the protest.

Meanwhile, the police have filed a case against all 22 students arrested in connection with the incident under the Public Offense Act.
