KATHMANDU, Nov 19: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that a conducive environment is gradually forming for the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5.

Highlighting what she called “significant progress” in the two months since assuming office, she expressed confidence that preparations for the polls would be completed in the remaining three and a half months.

Speaking in an interview with Nagarik Frontline, a weekly program broadcast every Wednesday night by Nepal Republic Media, PM Karki said that processes including party registration, voter roll updates, consultations with political parties and financial arrangements have moved positively, ensuring that the election will take place as planned.

She informed that most police buildings burned during the Gen Z movement have already been rebuilt and uniforms have been restocked—measures she said have boosted police morale. She added that India has committed to providing 700 vehicles, while the government has procured 275 vehicles for the Nepal Police and dispatched them to concerned units.

PM Karki said the government has been holding continuous talks with political parties regarding election participation. While acknowledging that the CPN-UML has called for the reinstatement of the dissolved HoR, she expressed confidence that the party will ultimately take part in the polls. “Even if Chairman KP Oli himself has not joined the discussions, we have repeatedly engaged with other UML leaders. They are positive about the election. Where can a political party go if it refuses to contest an election?” she remarked.

She also said that most inmates convicted of serious crimes who had fled during the Gen Z protests have returned to prison, and the government remains committed to bringing back those involved in minor offences. She added that around 700 looted weapons remain outside custody, but recovery efforts are ongoing.

The full interview with Prime Minister Karki will air tonight at 7 PM on Nagarik Frontline.
