Pasanglamhu Highway reopens after 3 months

NUWAKOT, Sept 25: Vehicular movement on the Pasang Lamhu Highway has finally resumed after a hiatus of three months. Landslides at Rasuwa, Rampoche and Mulkharka stretches of the highway had affected more than 35,000 residents of eights VDCs.



The landslides were cleared with the initiative of truck and container entrepreneurs after the concerned district administrations kept shying away from its responsibility. [break]



“We were compelled to bear the expenses required to clear the road after the Road Department and the District Administration Offices showed no interest in solving the problem,” said Chairperson of Truck and Container Entrepreneurs´ Association of Rasuwa, Nurpugyamjo Tamang. [break]



According to Tamang, they have spent around Rs 1 million a day. “This is our personal expense and not a penny has come from the government side,” said Tamang.

Tamang added that heavy equipment like dozers were used to remove boulders off the highway.



The locals of Dhunche, Chyafru, Chilime, Goljung, Gatlang, Thuman, Timure, Langtang and Haku VDC were affected the most following the highway disruption.
