BUTWAL: Insisting that the electorate of squatters on the bank of Tinau River could be a game changer in the polls, candidates of various parties have started visiting the settlement to seek votes. There are more than 10,000 squatters in constituency 4 of Rautahat district.

“The votes of squatters could be a game changer. “Their votes could be decisive,” said DR Ghimire, a local journalist. He further said the political parties have promised to build a bridge to impress the voters. UCPN (Maoist) candidate Baburam Bhattarai spent a night with squatters.[break]

Likewise, CPN-UML leader Gopal Rana has said that his party would not allow other parties to influence the voters. Nepali Congress candidate Surya Prasad Pradhan has sought support from local businessmen. The businessmen in turn are reaching out to the voters asking them to vote for NC. Political analyst Dil Sahani said, “UCPN (Maoist) candidate Bhattarai is likely to get defeated in the polls.”
