Parties urge EO to monitor poll code of conduct

CHITWAn, Oct. 22: Political parties have voiced their complaints over the breach of election code of conduct by haphazardly using election publicity materials against the standard stipulated by the National Election Commission.



They further complained that the District Election Office (EO) is not properly monitoring the activities carried out in a way to violate the election norms.



Various speakers at an interaction program organized by the Election Office in Bharatpur, Chitwan on Monday stressed the need to put effective election monitoring in place to ensure free and fair election. [break]



The Office should take action against those involved in the breach of election code of conduct, they said.



UCPN (Maoist)´s Chitwan District Coordinator Ghanashyam Dahal said that the Election Office should act tough to ban such activities. CPN-UML District Chairperson JN Thapaliya,said the Election Office should take action against the violators even acting on the oral complaint lodged to that effect.



Him Lal Belbase, election officer of constituency number 4 said that Election Office has banned the use of any electronic and print media for the election publicity campaign of the candidates.



However, Chief Election Officer Binod Mohan Acharya said that no serious types of violation have been so far occurred in the district though minor incidents were recorded during the Dashain festival.
