KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The meeting of the parliament called for 3 pm on Saturday afternoon has failed to begin till 6 pm in the evening.

The delay is owing to meeting of taskforce that is underway to change language of the Constitution Amendment Bill. The Parliament Secretariat said that meeting will begin once the taskforce settles the issue.Earlier, today five major political parties had decided to endorse the bill tabled at the parliament with amendment. They also formed a three-member taskforce including Minister for Law Agni Kharel to change language of the bill.

The erstwhile government had registered the bill to amend Articles 42, 84 and 246 of the new constitution in a bid to address the demands of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).

The front, however, has been protesting the bill saying that it won’t the demands of Madhes.

As many as 24 amendment proposals have been registered over the bill.
