KATHMANDU, Oct 23: Ever wonder what mysteries lie in the infinite folds of space above? Now you have a shot at finding out.

You tube along with computer manufacturing giant Lenovo and a US-based space tourism company Space Adventures, is conducting a new innovative contest that can propel your ideas into the heavens above. [break]

Students from all over the globe will now be provided with an opportunity to witness their astronomical experiments conducted in space.

Space Lab is an idea-based contest, where students between the ages of 14 and 18 will be able to post a video consisting of their ideas for an experiment that could be conducted in space.

Students are expected to make a video explaining their ideas and should be submitted no later than December 7, 2011.

Videos entered will be judged by world-renowned professors and astronomers including Stephen Hawking and Japanese JAXA astronaut Akihiko Hoshide.

In March of 2012, regional and global winners will be announced. The regional winners will include six contestants from each region.

Prizes for the winners will include a trip to Washington, DC, a true-weightlessness ZERO-G flight or a Lenovo IdeaPad U300 Ultrabook.

Two global winners will be selected, one from the age bracket of 14-16 and the other from within the age bracket of 17-18.

The main prize for the global winners will include live-stream of the winning experiments being conducted in the International Space Station.

The other prizes could include an astronaut training package at Star City, Russia or a front-seat experience for a memorable experience to be conducted in Japan.

“The top two winners will have a chance to attend astronaut training in Russia and their experiments will be conducted and live-streamed by astronauts aboard the International Space Station — 250 miles above Earth!” says the official Space Lab website at www.lenovo.com/spacelab/us/en/.
