OHCHR calls for restraint

KATHMANDU, May 3: United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal (ONCHR-Nepal) has urged all parties to exercise restraint in the wake of political developemnts involving sacking of army chief Rookmangud Katawal.

In a statement issued on Sunday, OHCHR-Nepal also said all sides should respect the rights of journalists to carry out their professional activities.


“Organisers of rallies should ensure that participants act in a peaceful manner and within the law,” said the statement. “Police should prevent violence and respond with restraint and the minimum force required to maintain order, should it be necessary.”
