NSC gets new board-members

KATHMANDU, June 11: The government has appointed six persons to the National Sports Council (NSC) board on Friday.



According to Youth and Sports Minister Hit Bahadur Tamang´s personal secretary Tanka Lal Ghising, a meeting of the council of ministers on Friday appointed Indra Bahadur Thing, Yuvaraj Lama, Mukunda Bahadur Pahari, Pahal Singh Gharti Magar, Kusum Kumari Shrestha and Number Sherpa as board members.[break]



"Government appointed them after minister Tamang forwarded a proposal recommending their names during a meeting on Friday," informed Ghising.



Former Karate player and well-known filmmaker Yuvaraj Lama´s name has cropped up for the position of member-secretary but the ministry is yet to divide the portfolios. The division of portfolio is expected to be completed by Monday.



Government to award footballers



Meanwhile, the government on Friday has decided to award members of men´s and women´s national football squads.



According to Ghising, government will award cash prizes to the members of the women´s team who became runner-up in the Women SAF Championship and the men´s team who helped qualify Nepal for AFC Challenge Cup final round.



"Each player will get Rs 50,000 while coaches of both the teams will receive Rs 25,000 each," said Ghising quoting minister Tamang.
