Nepal's run ends with defeat in World Boxing C'ship

KATHMANDU, Oct 17: Nepal´s run from the AIBA World Boxing Championship ended in the very first round on Thursday.



Nepal´s last pugilist Dinesh Shrestha was defeated by Uzbekistan´s Isakov Shakhriyor in the preliminary round of men´s bantam 56 kg weight category on Thursday at Almaty, Kazakhstan.[break]



Shrestha was defeated 3-0 by Shakhriyor though he threw a tough fight in all the three rounds. Shrestha lost first round 27-30, second 26-30 and third 27-30.



Following Shrestha´s defeat, Nepal returned home without even a single win as the other participants -- Deepak Maharjan in 81 kg and Deepak Shrestha in 64 kg had lost their bouts in preliminary rounds. Maharjan on Wednesday was defeated by Hukkanen Ville of Finland on Wednesday and Shrestha was defeated by Biddle David of Australia on Tuesday.



Maharjan was the only medalist for Nepal during 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games held in China.
