Nepali athletes' poor run continues

KATHMANDU: Nepali athletes´ poor run in the Asian Athletics Championship being held in Pune, India continued on Saturday as well. Tilak Ram Tharu clocked 22.50 seconds to complete the men´s 200m sprint. Tharu holds the national record of 12.5 seconds in 200m. [break]



On Wednesday too, Tharu had failed to achieve his personal best in 100m. Tharu, who also holds the national record of 10.5 seconds in 100m, clocked 11.10 seconds at the championship. Rakesh Bajracharya, who is in India as the coach of the team, opined that the players´ nervousness had hampered their performances. "Before arriving, we had set the target of bettering personal records of all players, but the timings here have been just the opposite," Bajracharya said. "The players became nervous in the beginning." On Friday, Keshari Chaudhary leaped 11.56 m in triple jump, falling short of her personal best of 12.20 m.
