Nepalgunj defeated Region No 1 Biratnagar by seven wickets and Kathmandu defeated Region No 2 Birgunj by seven wickets at the TU Cricket Grounds, Kirtipur. [break]
Winning the toss, Birgunj elected to bat first and put up 55 runs in the allotted 20 overs losing six wickets. No batswoman other than opener Melina Rayamajhi (20 runs) scored in double digit. However, Kathmandu bowlers could not bowl well and gave 24 extra runs including 23 wides. Sarita Magar and Gita Chudal took two wickets each for Kathmandu.
In reply, Kathmandu met the target in 8.4 overs losing 3 wickets. Neera Rajopadhyaya top-scored for the side with 14 runs while Sarita Magar contributed 12 runs. Birgunj bowlers also could not restrict extras and gave away 27 extra runs to Kathmandu. Kritu Dahal took two wickets for Birgunj.
In the other match, Nepalgunj defeated last edition´s runners-up Biratnagar by seven wickets.
Batting first, Biratnagar were all out for 56 runs in 19.5 overs. Rashmi Sharma (7 runs) was the highest scorer for Biratnagar as their batswomen´s total was only 24 runs. However, they reached the 56-run mark as Nepalgunj bowlers gave away 32 extra runs, including 26 wides. Sita Rana, Sita Shahi and Nary Thapa Magar claimed two wickets apiece for Nepalgunj.
In reply, Binu Budha Magar hit unbeaten 24 runs and Nary Thapa Magar scored 13 runs to steer Nepalgunj to victory at the end of the 16th over. Biratnagar bowlers Rubina Chhetri, Divya Shikha Singh and Saraswati Chaudhary took a wicket each but could not restrict Nepalgunj from winning.
