Nepal wins last practice match in Sri Lanka

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Nepali national cricket team registered a massive 168-run victory over North Eastern Province on Monday in the last practice match of its Sri Lanka tour. Earlier, Nepal had lost all four practice matches against the Sri Lanka U-23 team.



Nepal elected to bat first at the Moors Sports Ground, Colombo and put up 273/8 in the 50-over match. In reply, the provincial team was all out for 105 runs in 28 overs.

Nepal´s opening pair of Subash Khakurel and Anil Mandal put up a 78-run partnership. Khakurel added 26 runs off 39 balls while Mandal scored 64 runs off 86 balls to guide Nepal to a good score. [break]



 Skipper Paras Khadka garnered 37 runs off 38 balls while Binod Bhandari made 30 runs off 39 balls. Sharad Vesawkar chipped in with 20 runs off 33 balls and Rahul Vishwakarma played a cameo role blasting an unbeaten 25 runs off eight balls. Gyanendra Malla (17 off 26), Sagar Pun (10 off eight) and Basant Regmi (unbeaten 11 off 13) were the other major contributors. Shakti Gauchan scored only four runs off nine balls.



S Mayudsan and A Norbert took two wickets each while T Priyalakshan, Nuwan Prasad, Dinesh Tamida and Kulavikramasinghe Gyanudas claimed a wicket each for the Sri Lankan team.



Avinash Karn and Sharad Vesawkar claimed three wickets each for Nepal to rattle the North Eastern Province team. Chandra Sawad took two wickets while Ram Naresh Giri and Gauchan claimed a wicket each.



Opener Lakshitha Madumal scored 38 runs off 61 balls and tail-ender S Uttamakumara remained unbeaten on 38 runs off 41 balls. None of the other batsmen could reach double figures.



The Nepali national team is scheduled to fly to Singapore from Sri Lanka on Thursday to take part in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup to be held from August 17 to 25. Nepal will face India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in the group stage of the tournament, for which the Asian Test-playing nations will send their U-23 teams.
