Confirming such privilege for Nepal, US embassy officials handed over the MCC Scorecard to Finance Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi at a meeting held at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Friday. [break]
The MoF stated that Nepal has become eligible for the assistance based on the progress it has made in three three major categories of 20 indicators -- economic freedom, investing in people and ruling justly.
At a meeting with US ambassador to Nepal Peter W Bodde last month, Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala had asked the US government to extend financial support to Nepal also through the MCC -- the US agency fighting global poverty
The MCC forms partnerships with some of the world´s poorest countries committed to good governance, economic freedom and investments in their citizens.
