Nepal demands zero-tariff for 497 Nepali products in China

KATHMANDU, March 17: The government on Tuesday demanded with China for zero-tariff entry for 497 Nepali products in the Chinese market in order to reduce its trade deficit with the northern neighbour.



During his meeting with visiting Chinese Vice Minister for Commerce Zhong Shan, Finance Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai reiterated Nepal´s demand of friendly Chinese market for Nepalese goods.



The Finance Minister also proposed increased Chinese investment in hydroelectricity, road links with China from eastern and far-western regions and extension of Lhasa-Khasa rail link to Nepal. He also urged China to complete as soon as possible development of the Special Economic Zone in Kavre district.



Earlier on Tuesday, the Chinese minister had called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who urged China to increase assistance for the development of economic and trade-related sectors in Nepal. He also sought China´s assistance in developing hydroelectricity and constructing the outer Ring Road in the Kathmandu Valley.
