Organizing a press conference on Saturday, NC Nawalparasi District Committee President Devendra Raj Kandel said the party´s district working committee and regional committees have been mobilized to make the Mahasamiti meeting a big success. [break]
Kandel said the Nawalparasi district committee has made all necessary preparations for holding the Mahasamiti meeting within a week after the party took a decision to hold the meet here. “The preparations for the Mahasamiti meeting have been grand and systematic though this was done at short notice,” he said.
NC Ramgraam Municipal Committee has taken on the responsibility for the management of the meeting venue. The organizers plan to bring in at least 50,000 people for the inaugural session. It is estimated that some Rs 3 million will be spent on room and board during the four-day Mahasamiti meet begining Monday.
According to Kandel, they have made necessary arrangements for accomodating some 1,300 Mahasamiti members, journalists, medical teams, volunteers and security personnel at Tribenidham, Bardaghat, Sunawal and Parasi. Party President Sushil Koirala will stay at Narayani Bhawan located within the Gajendramokshya Ashram at Tribenidhaam.
Likewise, some 200 women participants of the meeting will stay in a school building at the Ashram. Around 500 male participants will be kept at a new building of the Ashram.
According to Kandel, tents have been arranged for another 700 participants, medical teams, journalists and volunteers. The rest will be accomodated at various hotels in Bardaghat, Parasi and Sunwal and at the houses of party cadres.
The NC has mobilized a health team to spray pesticides against mosquitoes in the surrounding areas.
Organizers said preparations have been made for 10 separate messes for the participants. In view of the sanctity of the venue, there won´t be any meat items on the menu. Cooks have been invited from India to prepare the food.
While the local Nepal Electricity Authority office has been asked for continuous supply of power during the Mahasamiti meeting, the organizing committee has also made a separate provision for five generators. An information center with computers and wi-fi facilities has been set up for journalists. Nepal Telecom has set up a temporary communications tower at the meeting venue.
Speaking at the press meeting, Kandel said holding the Mahasamiti meeting in Nawalparasi will help give exposure to the religious and cultural importance of Trivenidhaam. He said the venue was also chosen to underline how the Gandak dam that lies nearby has created problems for the people.
NC calls for withdrawl of general strikes
The NC has asked various parties including the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist to withdraw the general strikes that they have announced for Sunday.
The NC made the request saying the strikes would create problems for Mahasamiti members to arrive at Trivenidham for the meeting.
