KATHMANDU, Jan 2: A section of Nepali Congress (NC) leaders have started exerting pressure on the party leadership to immediately call the party’s Mahasamiti meeting to assess the party’s
humiliating defeat in the recently held parliamentary and provincial assembly polls.
The leaders have concluded that the convention of party’s Mahasamiti meeting that draws party’s active cadres and leaders from each village across the country is a must to learn the reasons behind the party’s dismal performance in the recently held polls and devise new strategies to revamp the party.
NC Mahasamiti meeting: discussion on four proposals on
While a few senior leaders including General Secretary Shashank Koirala and Prakash Man Singh have already been demanding the party leadership call the meeting of both Central Working Committee (CWC) and Mahasamiti meeting, the party’s influential leaders have joined them lately.
On Sunday, seven youth leaders including Chandra Bhandari, Dhan Raj Gurung, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, Guru Raj Ghimire, Gagan Kumar Thapa, Pradip Poudel and Badri Pandey have appealed to the party leadership to call both the meetings.
While arguing that the party rank and file is disappointed by the recent poll results, the leaders have maintained that the party needs to seriously review the loss while alleging that the party leaders did not adopt necessary strategy although they knew the left alliance was taking shape.
The youth leaders have faulted the NC leadership for its inability to forge effective poll alliance with like-minded parties, tackle the allegations ramped-up by the opposition parties, effectively mobilize party’s sister organizations and the failure of the government to work as per the aspirations of the people. They have maintained the party needs to call its CWC and Mahasamiti meetings without delay to analyze the failures.
