NC demands martyr status for cadres killed by Maoists

KATHMANDU, April 18: Nepali Congress (NC) on Sunday asked the government to declare martyrs 934 of its cadres killed by the Maoists during the decade-long armed conflict. The NC also demanded that 137 cadres of other political parties including the CPN-UML be given the status of martyrs.



A report prepared jointly by NC leaders KB Gurung, Binaya Dhwaj Chanda, Govinda Raj Joshi, Laxman Ghimire and Sunil Bhandari after making field visits across the country was submitted to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal at his office on Sunday afternoon. NC leaders also asked the government to create conducive environment for displaced cadres to return to their respective villages.



Prime Minister Nepal has given assurance to meet the demand.
