KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Nepali Congress district convention in the remaining 54 districts has been scheduled for Thursday.

According to NC 12th General Election Committee, the party has already held district convention in 17 districts. The district convention of the party has been deferred in four districts -- Bhaktapur, Saptari, Parsa and Rasuwa -- due to internal differences and active membership distribution row.[break]

“Preparations have already been completed to hold district convention in 54 districts,” said Radhe Shyam Adhikari, chief of the Election Committee. “Village, municipal and election constituency level conventions are being held in the districts where district convention had been deferred.”

NC Central Working Committee had originally planned to hold district convention of the party on August 2. But the date was amended for August 12 as it coincided with the fourth round of voting for prime minister.

However, the CWC had authorized the party´s district committee to hold district committee convention if they wished so even before the slated date.

The deferral of the district convention has also pushed the date of 12th general convention -- which was earlier scheduled for August 26-30 -- for September 17 to 21.

Altogether nine to 11 election constituency-level representatives have been elected from each village or a ward of a municipality. A collegiate of these representatives from the entire district will elect the president of concerned district committee of the party. A candidate vying for district committee president must have been elected as election constituency level representative.
